Penn State Fayette competes in Brandywine Invitational

The Penn State Fayette Cross Country Team traveled to Penn State Brandywine and despite some setbacks, managed to finish 7th overall in the Brandywine Invitational.

The race included 16 teams, mainly from the Philadelphia Area and the PSAUC.  The invitational was won by Williamson College.

The team was  led by Sophomore Pedro Tavarez(Central York), who finished 50th despite an ankle sprain, early in the race.  The team quickly packed it in with Jesse Varndell(Albert Gallatin) in 55th, Chris Andino-Nunez (Conrad Weiser) 59th.  He was followed by Sophomore Zain Ali(Milliken, CA) in 71st and freshman Kareem Davis(Martin County High, FL) in 80th.

"I was worried about Pedro, with the ankle, and Chris, who was having trouble with the heat.  But, they both persevered and we were able to finish as a team," said first year coach Joe Carei.  "It was Jesse's first cross country race ever and he ran admirably.  Zain and Kareem had workmanlike efforts."

Penn State Fayette also finished 4th in the PSUAC standings, which excited coach Carei.  "If we can continue to improve and stay healthy, I think we could have an impact in the conference," said Carei.

The team travels to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, September 26th for the Wilkes-Barre Invitational.
