Roaring Lions XC turn heads at Mont Alto

Mont Alto, PA - The Penn State Fayette Men's Cross Country Team made history on Saturday, September 24 at the Mont Alto Invitational.  The day started with Cameron Coffey and Devin Pisarski breaking the Course record in 29:10 and 29:18. The day finished with the first ever Roaring Lions Invitational win.

Coffey's and Pisarski's 1-2 finish ensured the Roaring Lions a 15 point victory. They were helped by Freshman Mike Elliot, who finished aboard the medal stand with a 10th Place finish. Senior Jesse Varndell provided veteran leadership and a 15th place finish. Freshman Anthony Berdine stepped up as several team mates were sidelined for the meet. His 20th place team finish, rounded out the scoring for Penn State Fayette. Kyle Slavic and Dalton Kirkpatrick were able to pick up points by pushing back 2nd place Brandywine's fifth runner.

Coach Joe Carei was pleased with the results, but is containing his enthusiasm for the time being. "It was a great test to see where we are in the conference, but we need to get some guys healed.  We still have a few hard tests before the championship," said Carei.  The PSUAC Championship will be held on October 29th.

Penn State Fayette won the meet with 45 points. Penn State Schuylkill was second with 60 points.

The team will travel to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, October 1 for the Worthington-Scranton Invitational.
