Roaring Lions nearly take Scranton Invitational

Despite missing two of their top five runners, Roaring Lions Cross Country nearly won the Scranton Invitational.  The team finished just one point behind winner Penn State Schukyll; 46-47.  Despite the heartbreaking results, the team was still pleased with their performance.

Freshman Devin Pisarski(Connellsville) led the team with a second place finish in 30:51.  Mike Elliot, Fr.(Beth Center) was a medallist in fourth place with 35:14.  Senior Jesse Varndell(Albert Gallatin) followed,  finishing 7th  in the top 10 with a 36:47.

Hard charging Ben Wilson, Fr.(Uniontown), split a pair of Scranton runners to finish 16th and Freshman Anthony Berdine(Wash. High) rounded out the team with an 18th place finish.

"I know the guys are disappointed, it's hard to swallow a 1 point loss," Said Coach Joe Carei.  "But we were missing our number one and number five runners.  So this was big, as we went against the better teams in the PSUAC."

The team will travel to Schenley Park in Pittsburgh for the Carnegie Mellon Invite on Oct. 8th.  "It will be a test, we will be running against NCAA division 1 and Division 2 schools, but it should help us improve,"  Said Carei.
