Fayette Cross Country takes 8th at Fisher Invite

The Penn State Fayette cross-country team placed eighth at the Fisher XC Invite at Westminister College on Friday.

"It was a good day as we treated this as a workout," Carei said.

The race was an 8k.

Mitchell Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) set a personal best while breaking a school record with a time of 27:41 to finish 33rd.

Michael Elliott (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) had Fayette's second-best individual time at 28:29, which was good for 40thplace.

Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) was up next in 51st with a time of 29.17 while Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) was one slot behind with a time of 29:19.

Stephen Lacek (Fort Cherry, PA/Fort Cherry HS) finished 56th with a time of 30:21 while Hayden Rhodes (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) finished 70th with a time of 39:12.

Carei pulled four runners from the race as is the norm when he is in this specific situation.

"Our team finish was not indicative of our performance," he said. "I like to transition our new runners who are making the jump from 5k in high school to 8k in college.

"So we pulled our first-year runners at 5k."

The quartet that were pulled consisted of Ryan Semle (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS), Ben Witt (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS), Joe O'Connell (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) and Arlo Helms (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville HS).

Also, Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) missed the event due to a prior commitment.

The team resumes action Saturday, September 7 at the Wolfpack Invitational on the campus of Westmoreland County Community College.
