XC men's team wins Wolfpack Invitational

The Penn State Fayette men's cross-country team won the Wolfpack Invitational on Saturday, September 7 on the campus of Westmoreland County Community College.

"It was a good run as a team," said head coach Joe Carei. "We ran as a pack for two miles and then allowed them to pick it up from there."

The team scored 22 team points at the meet which featured nine teams and finished 19 points ahead of Christendom, which finished with 41 points.

Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) finished second overall with a time of 17:38 for Fayette, which placed five runners in the top 10.

Mitchell Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) was third at 17:43, Ryan Semle (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) finished fifth at 17:54, Ben Witt (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) was 6th at 17:59 and Joe O'Connell (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) was 10th in 18:06.

"We had our top seven within 50 seconds at the finish line, which is big," Carei said. "The freshmen seem to fit in well and I look forward to them running the 8k next week."

The team resumes action Saturday, September 14 at the St. Vincent College Invitational.
