Men's XC wins Blue Apple, women fourth

The Penn State Fayette cross country teams had a great showing Saturday at the Blu Apple Invitational as the men's team won and the women finished fourth.

"The men had a very hard course but we were able to navigate it well," said head coach Joe Carei. We got spread out a little during the race but we were able to pull it back together at the end.

"It wasn't our prettiest race but we ended up on the winning side."

The men's team finished with 41 team points in the race which featured 14 schools.

Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) looked best for the men as he finished fifth with a time of 29:50.  Joe O'Connell (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) was 7th (30:08), Ben Witt (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) was 8th (30:26), Ryan Semle (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) finished 9th (30:29) and Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) came in 12th (30:36).

The Fayette women's team finished fourth out of 12 teams.

"The women continue to improve and everyone achieved a personal record today," Carei said. "This was very hard to do on this course.

"They are starting to gel, and we look for them to continue this trend."

Kira Nicholson looked best for the Fayette women as she finished 23rd overall (34:33), Casey Falcon also finished in 34:33, Meghan Czekaj was 34th (35:53), Haley Miller finished 37th (38:12) and Pam McKnight finished 41st (40:06).
