Gonzales ties for first, golf team finishes 6th at PSUAC Blue Invitational

Louis Gonzalez finished tied for first at the 2019 PSUAC Blue Invitational on Monday and the Penn State Fayette golf team finished sixth at the team event.

"Louis received a beautiful crystal trophy for his achievement," said head coach Dave Gumbert. "He constantly provides positive reinforcement and assistance to his fellow teammates and competitors.

"Louis truly represents what golf competition is all about."

The event, which was the second of two in-season tournaments held at the Penn State Golf Courses in State College, was comprised of the 12 Pennsylvania University Athletic Conference teams.

Gonzales (Port Lavaca, TX/Calhoun HS) finished four strokes ahead of Noah House (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland HS), who tied for 12th after shooting a 78.

"This was Noah's first competitive score under 80 this year and he seems poised to perform well in the upcoming USCAA/PSUAC finals," Gumbert said.

Jarred Provance (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) tied for 25th after shooting an 85, Ryan Gesso (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) finished 48th after shooting a 98, Pablo Gudiel (Washington, DC/Woodrow Wilson HS) was 53rd after shooting a 100 and Lucas Long (West Newton, PA/ Belle Vernon Area HS) tied for 58th with a 104.

"Jarred continued his steady play while Ryan, Pablo and Lucas also contributed to our team total of 335 and our sixth-place finish."

Fayette heads to PSU Greater Allegheny Thursday and PSU Hazleton Monday to prepare for the USCAA/PSUAC Championships which take place October 6-8.

"We have two regular season tournaments left, at Greater Allegheny and Hazleton, before we get ready to compete in the finals," Gumbert said. "I sense that our team is beginning to peak at the right time."
