Young, Boring record double-doubles in MBB win over PS New Ken

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team moved over .500 in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference play Friday with a 69-61 win over Penn State New Kensington.

Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) had another monster game for Fayette (5-7, 4-3) as he recorded a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds.  Dom Boring (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster HS) also had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds while Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) also finished in double figures with 13 points.

Young and Boring combined for 31 of Fayette's 41 rebounds in the game.

Fayette took control in the first half and opened a 38-23 cushion at the half.

"I thought we were locked in on both sides of the ball in the first half," said first-year head coach Marcus Thomas. "We were taking high-quality shots and had great team defense."

However, the team appeared to lose focus after its lead ballooned to as many as 21 points in the second half.

"Unfortunately, after building up a quality lead in the second half, we lost that same focus," Thomas said. "We lost our attention to detail on defense and made a high number of careless turnovers on offense.  We played like we had the game won and that they would just quit.  That wasn't the case and we were fortunately able to hold on.  It is something that we must learn from and handle much better in future situations."

Fayette shot 47% (27-59) for the game while holding New Kensington to 30% (24-79).  Fayette's 21 turnovers (to only seven for New Kensington) attributes to Fayette taking 20 less shots.

Jamison Nee (22) and Jahi Ogbonna (21) hit double figures for New Kensington.

Fayette is off until January 14 for winter break when it heads to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a PSUAC game.  Tipoff is at 8 PM.
