T&F competes at Bobcat Invitational

The Penn State Fayette Track & Field team took part in the Bobcat Invitational at Frostburg University on Saturday and the team made some history.

"We had our first-ever first and second (place) in women's shot put," said head coach Joe Carei. "Also, the guys were excited as we threw hammer competitively for the first time."

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) took first in the shot put with a distance of 11.11 meters while Anei Toaisi (Suva, Fiji, Uniontown HS) took second with a throw of 10.61 meters.

Tale also took third in the discuss with a distance of 33.48 meters.

Lucas Klorczyk took second in the javelin with a throw of 48.29 meters while Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) took third in the 3,000-meter Steeple Chase with a time of 11:23.

Tyler Zeleneck (Fredricktown, PA/Beth-Center HS) had a solid showing as he finished fifth in the Javelin at 36.57 meters and sixth in the Hammer at 33.32 meters.

Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) took fifth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 18:39, Michael Elliot (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) took sixth in the Long Jump at 5.63 meters, Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) placed sixth in the 1,500-meters in 4:22 and Craig Weaver (Newfreeport, PA/West Greene HS) took sixth in the Discus at 35.27 meters.

Carei discussed the improvements that he is seeing.

"The weight team continues to work hard and it is showing up on the field," he said. "We have also established a few new personal records on the track and are hopeful that they trend will continue.

"Our goal is to do well at the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) invite in Vermont on April 27th, and we are working towards that."
