T&F performs well at Westminster Invitational

The Penn State Fayette Track & Field team took part in the Westminster Invitational and head coach Joe Carei continues to see improvement.

"There were several personal records and we are improving against stiff competition," he said. "For the most part, everyone had a tough week of practice so for us to perform the way we did, it shows that we are getting stronger."

A total of 25 schools participated, with there being a mix of Division I, II and III teams.

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) was the lone female team member to place as she took fifth in the discus with a throw of 36.90 meters.

Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) won his heat in the 800-meters with a time of 2:06.4 and nearly led wire to wire in his heat of the 1500-meter with a personal record of 4:21.5.

The men's 4x400 ran a school record of 3:45 and the quartet included PJ Savini (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS), Hayden Rhodes (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS), Minda and Michael Elliot (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS).

Lucas Klorczyk took ninth in the javelin with a throw of 46.34, Craig Weaver (Newfreeport, PA/West Greene HS) took 11th in the discuss with a throw of 36.73 and Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) finished 12th in the steeple chase.

Fayette is at Alderson Broaddas for its last tune-up before taking off for the USCAA championships at Vermont Tech on Saturday, April 27.

"We have our sites set on the USCAA national meet in Burlington, Vermont," Carei said. "We are looking for our niches."
