WBB wins PSUAC pair

The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team opened conference play with two wins at home over the weekend.

"What I am most proud of from this weekend is the team chemistry and the way the girls are cheering each other on and supporting each other," head coach Scott Hillen said. "They are buying into the 'we' game and not the 'me' game."

Friday night, Fayette (4-2, 2-0) downed Penn State Wilkes-Barre (4-3, 0-2) 66-51 to get off on the right foot in Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) play.

Fayette was sluggish in the first half and trailed at halftime, 34-23.

However, Fayette held Wilkes-Barre to 17 points in the fourth quarter and had a 26-7 advantage in the fourth to help pull out the 15-point win.

Brooke Poling (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier HS) and Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) led the way for Fayette with 14 points each with Tale adding 16 rebounds.

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) added 11 points for Fayette while Wilkes-Barre's Victoria Benning led all players with 23 points.

Saturday, Fayette downed Penn State Scranton (0-6, 0-3), 84-61.

While Fayette started slow Friday, it came out fast against Scranton as Riley scored 11 of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter.

In all, five players hit double figures for Fayette.

Joining Riley with double digits were Taylor McCormick (Laurel, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) added 15 while Poling, Tale and Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) each added 14.

Riley (13), Tale (11) and Poling (10) combined for 34 rebounds for Fayette with McCormick (six), Riley (five) and Burnsworth (five) combining for 16 assists.

McCormick played an all-around solid game as she also had seven steals, which were part of the 32 turnovers Fayette forced.

Tale added three blocks.

Fayette is off until Tuesday, December 3 when it heads to Penn State Beaver for a conference game.
