Marteny XC All-American, USCAA XC championship results

 The Penn State Fayette Cross Country team competed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships Friday and both the men's and women's teams performed well.

On the men's side, the team finished third and Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) was named a second team All-American after his eighth-place finish (27:18).

"Our goal for the men's team was to improve on last year's fourth place finish, and we got third," said coach Joe Carei. "We hope to continue that trend in the future."

Carei also spoke about Marteny.

"Nyoah continued to impress with his All-American performance," he said. "He is our first men's All-American in school history."

Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) was 14th (27:39), Joe O'Connell (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) took 20th (27:55), Ben Witt (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) finished 22nd (28:07), Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) was 23rd (28:09), Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) was 25th (28:23) and Ryan Semle (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) came in 30th (28:38).

The women's team finished 11th with Casey Falcon (Beth-Center, PA/Beth-Center HS) leading the way for Fayette in 50th (30:48).

Kira Nicholson (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) finished 53rd (31:58), Haley Miller was 56th (33:33), Meghan Czekaj was 57th (33:41) and Pam McKnight was 63rd (37:39).

Also announced was that Mike Elliott (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) was named the USCAA cross country Student-Athlete of the Year.
