Baseball falls to DuBois, 8-1

Washington, PA - The Penn State Fayette baseball team took a 45-minute ride to Wild Things Park in Washington (PA) to host Penn State DuBois Tuesday, and it returned home on the wrong side of an 8-1 decision.

"We struggled offensively tonight," said coach Mike Sikorski. "We didn't make some routine plays and also failed to keep runners off the bases.  We have to limit walks and have to get timely hits."

DuBois starting pitcher Brandon Orsich scattered five hits over six innings and limited Fayette to one run before giving away to the bullpen.  Sam Cheng (two innings) and Daniel Stauffer (one) threw a combined three shutout innings without giving up a hit.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third, Fayette (4-6 overall, 4-5 PSUAC) tied the game.  With one out, Nate Zimcosky (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) singled in Cory Fleming (Monessen, PA/Monessen HS) to even things up with DuBois (8-2, 5-2).  Fayette briefly had the momentum, but Orsich settled in and Fayette would not score again.

DuBois scored three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take control of the game before scoring its last run in the sixth.  It scored six earned runs off of Fayette starting pitcher Garrett Stevenson (Hempfield, PA/Hempfield HS).  The senior went four innings and struck out five.

At the plate, five different players recorded singles for Fayette.

Next up for Fayette will be four weekend games against Penn State Allegheny (7-4, 7-4) as Fayette hosts a double header Saturday and heads to Greater Allegheny Sunday.  Action begins both days at noon. Currently, Greater Allegheny sits in third place while Fayette is in fourth.
