Burns with a walk off, Fayette wins on Senior Night

Hopwood, PA- Fayette wins against Kent State Tuscarawas in their last game of the regular season.

The atmosphere of Fayette's last home game could not have been any better with it doubling out as a night game and "Senior Night" at Fayette's home away from home, Hutchinson Park. The battle started early, with back and forth scoring, making it 6-6 heading into the top of the seventh inning. The Tuscarawas bats got hot in the seventh, creating a 10-6 lead against the Nittany Lions. Fayette was able to score 3, but it wasn't enough, making the score 10-9 heading into the ninth inning. Coach Encapera made a pitching change with Andrew Despot, which led to a quick three outs for the Nittany Lions. In the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded, Ethan Rendulic had a "good eye" moment by being walked to first, causing Johnny Iannou to score. Josh Burns was now up to bat with only one out. Burns singled to the middle, creating senior, Kyle Ridley to score and Fayette to win the game 11-10.

Coach Ryan Encapera spoke about the exciting game, "Josh Burns stepped up for us tonight and finished off a great offensive performance 4-4 3RBI with that walk off hit. He also had a huge play defensively and held his own at Shortstop filling in for Depo [Andrew Despot]. Rendulic also had several great at bats and came through for us driving in runs like he always does. It was a great way to finish the regular season with a hard fought win against a scrappy team just like us. This game was just like several others this year and the high scoring game is our type of game."

Fayette will now head into post season at Penn State Mont Alto's field, where they will take on Penn State Dubois in one seventh inning "play in" game for PSUAC Playoffs.

"I'm hopeful that we can carry the momentum from this game into the playoffs. Proud of our seniors and the mark they have left on this program," Coach Encapera commented. "Their resilience and grit have made this program one of the most respected in the PSUAC forging back to back playoff appearances."
