MBB drops PSUAC pair

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) games over the weekend, and it has left the team tied for fourth place in the conference's West division.

Friday night, Penn State York (11-3, 7-0) remained in first place in the PSUAC East with its 84-77 win over Penn State Fayette.

"We played well enough to win, but things didn't go our way at the end of the game," said Fayette coach Andy Hedrick.  "I thought it was the best effort we gave all year and we have been showing steady improvement over the past four games."

The hosts held a massive advantage at the free throw line as it made 30 of 39 free throws (76.9 percent) while Fayette only took 13 free throws, making nine (69.2 percent).  Fayette made six more field goals than York, going 31 of 65 (47.7 percent) while York made 25 of 55 free throws (45.5 percent).

Dasilas Jones (Fairmont, WV/Fairmont HS) recorded game-highs with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fayette while Will Hagwood (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby HS) added 23 points off the bench.  Tave Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) shared game honors with Jones as he also grabbed10 rebounds.

Saturday, Fayette fell behind Penn State Mont Alto (10-2, 6-1) by 21 points halfway through the first half and could not recover.

"We spotted them a 31-10 lead and we had to battle the whole time," Hedrick said. "We came back and took the lead, but we had to work so hard to come back that we didn't have much left at the end of the game.  Si (Jones) had a great game leading the comeback."

Jones finished with a career-high 40 points, Mozie scored 18 and Hagwood finished with 15.

Fayette shot 44.3 percent (27-61) for the game while Mont Alto shot 50.7 percent (34-67).

The loss concludes Fayette's games in 2021 and it returns to action on Friday, January 14 when it hosts Penn State Shenango.  It will be the first of five straight home games.
