Hagwood leads MBB to win over PS DuBois

Lemont Furnace, PA- The Penn State men's basketball team rolled to an easy Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) win Wednesday when it defeated Penn State DuBois, 97-56.

"We came out on fire tonight at the beginning of both halves and were able to get a lot of people into the game," said Fayette first-year coach Andy Hedrick. "Will Hagwood had an exceptional game scoring and was able to hit from both the outside and score off of the dribble."

A freshman, Hagwood (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby HS) scored a career-high 31 points and made 12 of 19 shots from the floor, including four-of-nine from beyond the arc, to lead Fayette (8-6 overall, 4-6 PSUAC).  Tave Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) scored 20 points and Mo Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) added 16 for Fayette, which shot 53.8 percent (35 of 65) for the game while DuBois (0-14, 0-11) only shot 30.8 percent (16-52).

Fayette shot 48.7 percent (19 of 39) on three-pointers, and it was the second straight game that Fayette almost hit 50 percent from downtown.  Last Friday, it made 15 of 32 three-point attempts (46.9 percent) against Penn State Shenango.

The outcome was never in doubt Wednesday as DuBois' last lead was 8-7 with 15:49 to play in the first half.   Fayette raced out to a 49-31 lead at the half and its biggest lead was 47 points, 86-39, with 10:45 to play in the game.  Fayette won the rebounding margin (34-33), had 11 more assists (14-3), scored more points off of turnovers (21-10), had more second chance points (15-12) and won the battle in the paint (30-16).

The win leaves Fayette in third place in the PSUAC West division, and a pair of games this weekend could solidify its ground in the hunt for a postseason berth into the PSUAC tournament.

Fayette will look to extend its winning streak to three games when it hosts second place Penn State Beaver (8-6, 6-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m.  Then on Sunday, Fayette travels to Penn State Greater Allegheny (4-12, 2-7) for another 3 p.m. game.
