MBB drops weekend games

After dropping a pair of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) games over the weekend, the short-handed Penn State men's basketball team finds itself tied for third place in the conference's West division.

"We have to learn how to stay in games, but we are not shooting the ball well," first-year head coach Andy Hedrick said. "We missed Moe (Freeman) today."

Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) missed the weekend games.

Coming off of the month-long winter break, Fayette (8-10 overall, 4-7 PSUAC) shot well in its two wins over the past week.  However, it was a different story Saturday in a 67-49 defeat to Penn State Beaver (9-6, 6-3) and Sunday in a 102-68 loss at Penn State Greater Allegheny (6-12, 4-7).  Saturday, Fayette shot 32.8 percent (19-58) and it shot 37.5 percent (27-72) Sunday.

Beaver led most of the way Saturday as it shot 49.1 percent (28-57) for the game.  It led 28-21 at the half and held its biggest lead, 19 points, with 13:15 to play in the game.

Will Hagwood (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby HS) was the lone Fayette player to hit double figures in the game as he finished with 14 points.

Sunday, Fayette never led and Greater Allegheny shot 55.1 percent for the game.

"Greater Allegheny came out on fire and we struggled to score with them without some of our weapons," Hedrick said.

Gavin Postlethwait (New Martinsville, WV/Magnolia HS) led four Fayette starters Sunday with a career-high 12 points with Hagwood, Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS), and Tave Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) each adding 10 points.  The fifth starter, Matt Forbes (Verona, PA/Massabutten Military Academy), finished with nine points.

Fayette and Greater Allegheny are now tied in third place in the PSUAC West division, and Fayette is off until Saturday when it hosts Penn State Brandywine (7-12, 5-5) at 5 p.m. and Sunday when it hosts Penn State Lehigh Valley (7-8, 5-5) at 3 p.m.
