MBB Splits Pair, Remains Tied for Third

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team remains tied for third place in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference's (PSUAC) West division after splitting a pair of weekend games.

Fayette (9-11 overall, 5-8 PSUAC) fell to Penn State Brandywine (9-14, 7-6) 90-82 Saturday before ending a three-game losing streak with a 103-89 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley (7-10, 5-7) Sunday.

"We played well as a team against Brandywine) and our shot selection was good, they just made more plays down the stretch than we did," Fayette head coach Andy Hedrick said about Saturday's loss before turning his attention to Sunday's win.  "We came out on fire in the first half against Lehigh Valley and led 59-22.  The passing was excellent and created open shots that we hit."

Against Brandywine, Fayette led 48-37 at the half but was outscored 53-34 in the second half.  For the game, Fayette shot 45.8 percent (27-59) while Brandywine shot 52.3 percent (34-65).  Both teams made nine-of 22 three-point attempts (40.9 percent) and each team grabbed 34 rebounds.

Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) led Fayette with 23 points while Mo Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) added 16, Matt Forbes (Verona, PA/Massabutten Military Academy) scored 14 and Will Hagwood (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby HS) tallied 12.  Brandywine's Bryce Barrouk led all scorers with 28 points.

Fayette never trailed Sunday against Lehigh Valley and led by as many as 40 points late in the first half.  For the game, Fayette shot 47.0 percent (39-83) while Lehigh Valley shot 41.0 percent (32-78).

Tave Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) scored a game-high 24 points for Fayette while Hagwood added 19, Freeman tallied 16, Forbes finished with a career-high 15 points and Boring finished with 14.

Fayette hosts Penn State New Kensington (9-11, 5-8) in a third-place showdown Tuesday at 8 p.m.  A win would give Fayette the head-to-head advantage over New Kensington as Fayette went on the road to win the first matchup, 72-65, on December 7.

Penn State Greater Allegheny (6-14, 4-8) sits in fifth place a half-game behind Fayette and New Kensington while Penn State Shenango (8-16, 4-10)  is also in striking distance in terms of making the PSUAC playoffs.
