MBB seeded fifth in West for PSUACs

Under the leadership of first-year coach Andy Hedrick, the Penn State Fayette men's basketball team will open up play in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) tournament Saturday.

"This league has been so competitive from top to bottom, so everyone has a chance in this tournament," said Hedrick. "Although we are the fifth seed in the West, most games have come down to a possession or two.  Whoever gets hot now will win this tournament."

Fayette (10-15 overall, 6-13 PSUAC) heads to fourth-seeded Penn State New Kensington (13-13, 9-10) with the winner heading to Penn State Mont Alto (23-3, 18-1) for a quarterfinal matchup with the West division champions, who earned a bye.

During the regular season, Fayette and New Kensington split their matchups, with the road team winning both games.  Could this be a good sign for Fayette?  On December 7, Fayette went on the road to win, 72-65, with New Kensington returning the favor on February 1, 97-82.

Tipoff is Saturday at 1 p.m.

Penn State Beaver (16-9, 13-6) is the second seed out of the West and hosts seventh-seeded Penn State DuBois (1-21, 1-18) while Penn State Greater Allegheny (11-15, 9-10) is third and hosts Penn State Shenango (9-20, 5-14).

Penn State York (22-5, 17-2) is the East division champion and receives a bye into the quarterfinals where it will host the winner of the four-five matchup between Penn State Hazleton (9-14, 8-11) and Penn State Schuylkill (11-17, 9-10).  Penn State Wilkes-Barre (20-4, 15-3) is the second seed out of the East and hosts seventh-seeded Penn State Scranton (7-17, 4-14) while Penn State Brandywine (13-17, 11-8) is the third seed and hosts seventh-seeded Penn State Lehigh Valley (9-15, 7-18).
