Despite loss, McLay makes History

History was made by the Penn State Fayette men's and women's soccer team Sunday as Alec McLay (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) scored the first goal in program history, but Fayette fell at Penn State Hazleton, 5-1, in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) action.

McLay scored the goal on an assist from Adrian Edwards (Lincoln West Global), the first helper in program history, 1:12 into the match.  The goal gave the team its first-ever lead in a match.

Hazleton (1-2 overall, 1-2 PSUAC) tied Fayette (0-3, 0-3) 32:49 into the match when Ethan Hendricks scored on a direct kick.  The match was tied 1-1 at the half.

The hosts scored four goals in the second half to earn the win, with Fernando Cruz leading the way with two goals.

For the match, Hazleton had 16 shots on goal while Fayette had two.  Jorge Palmas (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair HS) made 11 saves in goal for Fayette.

Fayette returns to the pitch Monday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-2, 0-2).
