T&F sets two records at Bethany Invitational

The Penn State Fayette track & field team took part in the Bethany Invitational and despite snowy and cold weather, it had a solid showing.

"Surprisingly, we had good results for individuals in the weather," said head coach Joe Carei. "There were 16 schools at the meet and it was mostly made up of D2 and D3 schools.  We set a couple of school records.  Chloe (Kalp) had a good day and was very consistent.  Our freshmen got a chance to get used to a big outdoor meet, and I am looking forward to the rest of the season."

Kalp (Melcroft, PA/Connellsville HS) finished sixth in the 5,000-meter in a school-record time of 21:17 and ran the 1,500-meter in 5:45.  Cooper Salvay (LaBelle, PA/Brownsville HS) set a school record in the 100-meter with a time of 12.11 and also ran the 200-meters in 25.25.

 Nicole Walker (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) finished right behind Kalp in the 1,500-meter with a time of 5:56 and she ran the 800-meters in 2:56.  Julie Seliga (Smock, PA/Uniontown HS) ran the 1,500-meter in 6:25 and ran the 800-meter in 3:04.  Haley Miller (Masontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) completed the 100-meter hurdles in 21.42 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:30.67. 

Gavin Postlethwait (New Martinsville, WV/Magnolia HS) was third in the high jump in 1.75 meters.  Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) ran the 5,000-meter in 17:11 while Alex Gostev (Fair Lawn, NJ) ran the 1,500-meter in 5:02 and the 800-meter in 2:29.  Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) was seventh in the steeple in 12:17.  Ethan Mates (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) ran the 1,500-meters in 5:06 and the 800-meters in 2:24.  James Plez (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast HS) finished the 100-meters in 12.15 and completed the long jump in 5.63 meters. 

In the throwing events, Jennifer Zelenick (Fredericktown, PA/Beth-Center HS) recorded a 7.76 in the shot put and a 25.14 in the hammer throw while Jacob Noel (Greater Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe, PA) threw a 7.48 in the shot put.

The team heads to the WVU Invitational on April 2.
