Season Opener Ends in Loss for Roaring Lions

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team dropped their season opener Wednesday night, falling to Point Park University, 91-29, in the CCAC South campus gym.

 

Point Park dominated the second half, turning a 14-point halftime lead into a decisive win.

 

The Roaring Lions were led by freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) and junior Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) with seven points and five rebounds each. Sophomore Jill Guthrie added five points and two steals for Fayette.

 

Point Park outrebounded the Roaring Lions 61-30, and shot nearly 48 percent from the field (35-for-73). Fayette shot only 18 percent (8-for-45), including 0-for-11 from three-point range.

 

Fayette returns to action on Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, traveling to Newport News, Va. for the Great Ships Classic at the Apprentice School. The Roaring Lions will battle Southern Virginia at 6:00 p.m. Friday night before taking on the host Apprentice School on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
