Volleyball Fights Hard, Drops Match to Dubois

The Penn State Fayette Volleyball team dropped a hard-fought Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) West division match Monday to Penn State DuBois (25-18, 25-21, 25-22).

Fayette (5-4 overall, 3-2 PSUAC) was short-handed for the match, but head coach Sam Swetz was still impressed with her team's effort.

"Our team is very tightly bonded this year, so when we can't all be together, we feel it as a whole," she said. "Our team fought extremely hard, and I am very proud of them."

Kristina Aeschbacher (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had eight kills for Fayette while Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had eight assists and three aces, Carissa Cyphert (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) tallied 13 digs and Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) had 10 digs and six kills.

With the outcome, Fayette is now tied for third place with Penn State Mont Alto (7-4, 3-2) while DuBois (6-3, 3-1) is a half-game behind division leading Penn State Greater Allegheny (9-5, 4-1).

"I'm excited to play PSU DuBois at their place and see what the outcome is when we are all reunited," Swetz said of the October 18 contest.

Fayette steps out of conference play Wednesday when it heads to Carlow for a nonconference match.  It kicks off at 7 p.m.

This weekend, Fayette jumps back into PSUAC play as it hosts Penn State Shenango (1-6, 1-3) Saturday and Penn State Mont Alto Sunday.  Action kicks off both days at noon.
