VB sweeps Shenango; New Ken next

With the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) tournament days away, the Penn State Fayette Volleyball team went on the road and swept Penn State Shenango (5-12, 3-8) Sunday.

"We had great energy today," said head coach Sam Swetz. "Today, we showed that we are preparing for the playoffs."

Fayette (11-8, 6-5) won the three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-23.

With the fourth seed in the PSUAC West division wrapped up, Fayette has one regular season match left.  After Monday's trip to Penn State New Kensington (2-13, 0-11), Fayette will gear up for Thursday's PSUAC quarterfinal match at Penn State Mont Alto (17-5, 10-2).

Mont Alto shared the West division crown with Penn State DuBois (15-5, 10-2), but Mont Alto won both regular season matchups to earn the first seed. However, Fayette is one of their just two losses in the conference.

Swetz spoke about it being crucial to win Monday despite already having the fourth seed locked up and enter the postseason on a three-match winning streak.

"It's important that we finish strong against New Kensington so that we have a strong momentum heading into the playoffs," she said. "Most teams are looking at this week as the end of their season, but we are looking at it as we are just getting started."
