VB sees season end in PSUAC Quarterfinal

The Penn State Fayette Volleyball team saw its 2021 campaign come to an end Thursday night as it fell in four sets at Penn State Mont Alto in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) quarterfinal matchup.

"They played their hearts out tonight," Fayette coach Sam Swetz said of her team. "Regardless of the score, this is the most I have seen the team all be together all season and our stats reflect that."

Mont Alto (19-5), the top seed out of the PSUAC West division, won the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-18, before Fayette (12-9), the fourth seed out of the PSUAC West, won the third, 25-23.  However, the hosts were able to close things out in the fourth and final set, 25-20.

 Noelle Hunter (Fredricktown, PA/Beth-Center HS) finished with 12 kills and three blocks for Fayette while Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) had 18 digs, Kamden Miller (Midland, PA/Lincoln Park HS) recorded 10 kills and 13 digs, Meghan Goodnight (Wheeling, WV/The Lindsay School) finished with 12 digs, Kristina Aeschbacher (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) recorded eight kills and five blocks and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had 19 assists.

In other results Thursday night, Penn State Greater Allegheny (18-7), the third seed out of the PSUAC West, upset PSUAC West second-seed Penn State DuBois (16-6) in five sets, PSUAC East division top seed Penn State York (16-7) swept Penn State Lehigh Valley (7-11), the fourth seed out of the PSUAC East while the third seed out of the PSUAC East, Penn State Schuylkill (11-8), upset the second seed out of the PSUAC East, Penn State Brandywine (13-7) in five sets.

The winners advance to the PSUAC semifinals Monday at Rec Hall on Penn State University's main campus.  Mont Alto will play Schuylkill and Greater Allegheny will face York.  The winners of those two matches will play for the PSUAC championship Tuesday.
