VB sweeps two at PSUAC Crossover Tourney

The Penn State Fayette Volleyball team moved closer to another Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) playoff berth with a sweep over Penn State Lehigh Valley and Penn State Schuylkill Sunday at the PSUAC Crossover Tournament at Main Campus.

“I am glad we were able to pull out both wins today and help our overall record as we get closer to the PSUAC playoffs,” said head coach Sam Swetz.

In the 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-14, 25-14) over Lehigh Valley (5-7 overall, 4-4 PSUAC), Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) had 10 digs, Kristina Aeschbacher (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) recorded 12 kills and four blocks, Alie McGee (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had 12 assists and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had 16 assists.

Fayette (9-6, 5-3) downed Schuklkill (7-7, 5-3) 3-1 (25-12, 13-25, 25-17 25-22).  Noelle Hunter (Fredricktown, PA/Beth-Center HS) had 12 kills, McGee recorded 18 assists, Kamden Miller (Midland, PA/Lincoln Park HS) tallied 17 digs and Buwawa added 14 digs.

“I’m really happy Noelle has come into her own on the right side,” Swetz said.

With four conference matches left on its schedule, Fayette is hoping to make a late run.  Penn State DuBois (12-3, 7-1) leads the division with Penn State Greater Allegheny (14-6, 6-2) in second place and Penn State Mont Alto (11-4, 5-2) a half-game up on Fayette.

With four teams making the PSUAC playoffs form each division, Fayette is 2.5 games up on Penn State Beaver (5-12, 2-5) for the final playoff spot in the West and has the head-to-head tiebreaker as Fayette swept Beaver.

Fayette returns to the court Wednesday when it heads to Penn State New Kensington (1-10, 0-8).
