The "New Era" Fayette volleyball team took to the court this past weekend at the USCAA Tipoff Tournament held at Penn State Beaver campus.
Fayette went 2-2 between Friday and Saturday's games and Coach Joel Wingard spoke about the weekend.
"This weekend was a display of new leadership on the court for this team and was a successful push into this team's new era," Coach Wingard said. "I'm proud of these girls."
In their first contest Fayette lost to USCAA Division I Carlow University, 3-0 (25-11, 27-25, 25-17).
Bella Buwawa (Fort-Worth, Texas/Crawley HS) had 11 kills and a .526 kill percentage, Kamden Miller (Midland, PA/Lincoln Park HS) had 12 digs, Alie McGee (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) had 10 assists.
The following match was played point for point against Fayette Volleyball's friendly USCAA National Champion rival, Johnson and Wales, losing 3-0 in close sets of 25-23, 26-24, 26-24.
B. Buwawa once again led the team with 18 kills and 9 total blocks, Tyannah Eddings (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) accomplished 13 digs, Emma Eckert (Lake Lynn, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) stacked 15 assists and 3 service aces.
Going into day two of the Tournament Fayette came back with vengeance having a 2-0 day with matches. Fayette had their first victory of the season over Penn State Dubois with a 3-1 match (25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16).
B. Buwawa had her most impressive game yet, leading the team with 15 kills, 14 digs and 5 block solos. Her older sister, Senior Pasepa Driso-Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) was close behind with 12 kills, 16 digs and 5 total blocks. Eckert had an outstanding setting game totaling at 35 assists.
Fayette finished the tournament strong with a sweep of Penn State Beaver (25-14, 25-13, 26-24).
It was no surprised that Bella finished her weekend strong with 13 kills and 13 digs. Pasepa had a great defensive game with 15 digs. Eddings raised Pasepa one with 16 digs. Eckert once again set the world on fire with 28 assists and a respectable 4 service aces.
Fayette is set to play at home with a rematch against the USCAA Tipoff Tournament Champions from this past weekend, Carlow University at 7:00 P.M on Thursday.
