Women XC makes history, wins first Invitational

Youngwood, PA - The Penn State Fayette Cross-County team had a solid showing at Westmoreland County Community College's Wolfpack Invitational Friday, and the women's team made history as it won its first-ever invitational while the men finished second.

"The women's team did great, and our pack stayed together the whole race," said head coach Joe Carei. "This is our first invitational win in the history of the women's program.  The men, we were a little shorthanded, but we were able to pull out second.  Hopefully we will be able to bring the team together within the next few weeks."

In the women's race, Fayette took the first three spots.  Kelsey Wilkins set the pace for the women with a time of 22:22.8, Chloe Kalp (Melcroft, PA/Connellsville HS) was second in 22:23.1 and Nicole Walker (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) was third in 22:23.1.  Haley Miller (Masontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) finished seventh with a time of 26:09.5.

The men's team came in behind WCCC to earn second place.  Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) looked best for Fayette with a time of 18:04.4, Joe O'connell who Finished 6th in 19:01, Ethan Mates (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) was 11th with a time of 19:59.2, PJ Savini (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) was 21st in 22:15.0 and Logan Miller (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) was 23 in 22:48.7.

The teams return to action Saturday when it heads to Bethany (WV).
