XC travels to Bethany Invitational

Bethany, WV - The Penn State Fayette Cross Country team took part in the Bethany (WV) Invitational Saturday and both the men's and women's teams gained valuable experience in the event.

"We went up against all Division II and Division III schools, so it was an uphill climb to begin with," head coach Joe Carei said. "Two of our top male five (runners) were coming off of health issues and our women's team was short-handed, so we just wanted to work on our racing skills.  So, all in all, it was a learning day."

The men finished in 11th place with Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) looking best for Fayette.  He was 40th with a time of 29:15. Joe O'Connell (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) was next best for Fayette in 31:04, Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) came in at 34:02, Ethan Mates (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) finished in 34:52, PJ Savini (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) came in at 36:33 and James Plez finished in 45:53.

West Liberty took first place in the men's race while Davis & Elkins came out on top in the women's race.

Chloe Kalp (Melcroft, PA/Connellsville HS) looked best for Fayette as she finished in 34th with a time of 26:21 while Josie Pinduro (Hopwood, PA/Geibel Catholic) finished in 28:19.

The team returns to action Saturday when it heads to Penn State Mont Alto.
