Fayette XC sweeps PS Scranton Invitational

Lemont Furnace, PA - Saturday, October 2 was a great day for the Penn State Fayette Cross-Country program as both the men's and women's teams won at the Penn State Scranton Invitational.

Head coach Joe Carei is happy with the outcomes and with where the team is headed.

"Both courses were longer than usual and the most challenging of the year," he said. "This was the women's fourth win of the year.  Because everyone was shorthanded, a hybrid scoring system was used."

Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) won the men's race in a time of 32.11 and Joe O'Connell (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) finished second in 33.50 while Josie Pindro (Hopwood, PA/Geibel Catholic) won the women's race in 28.25.

"Mitch led wire to wire but Joe ran a smart tactical to finish second," Carei said. "All runners had tasks and completed them for the win.  In the women's race, Josie waited patiently in third until the last half-mile where she took the lead and never looked back."

Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) took 6th (35.25), Ethan Mates (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) finished eighth (36.32), Logan Miller (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) was 14th (39.05) and Jacob Noel finished 15th (41.25).

Chloe Kalp (Melcroft, PA/Connellsville HS) took third in the women's race with a time of 29.24 and Haley Miller (Masontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) finished sixth (33.56).

Fayette returns to action Saturday when it heads to Schenley park for the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational.
