XC ready for PSUAC Invitational

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette Cross Country team heads to Norlo Park in Fayetteville (PA) Saturday for the 2021 Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Cross Country Invitational, and both the men's and women's teams are looking to win championships.

On the men's side, the team will look to win a fifth-straight crown.

"The men's team has won since 2016, so to win the expectation," said head coach Joe Carei. "The key for the men is to remain consistent and look to run personal bests.  It will be the closest contest since 2016 so we are not taking it lightly."

The women have yet to win the conference tournament, but the team is motivated.

"We hope to win," said Carei. "We lost the conference by one point last time (2019) so we want to redeem that.  The key is to be healthy as we only have five women and five score.  There are more question marks with only five.  Covid, getting sick, injuries to name a few.  If we are healthy, we should win."

Both the men's and women's teams are looking forward to Saturday.

"Due to the situation the last two years, we are all excited to get this done," said Carei. "They have worked hard this season and won a combined six invitationals, so we are hoping to put the cherry on top."

The race at Norlo Park, the home course of Penn State Mont Alto, will begin at noon.
