XC Meet, Coach Bush proud of the effort

XC Meet, Coach Bush proud of the effort

The meet at WCCC had moments of heart break and surprises. Chloe Kalp took a demanding lead early in the race, at the half way point she was running a sub 20 minute 5k pace.  Unfortunately with 1,000 meters left in the race Chloe's hamstring started to tighten up. She showed determination and grit as she finished the race with a 2nd place finish, with a time of 22:29. Julie Seliga surprised herself with an 11th place finish, her time was 26:34. Julie's last hundred meter kick was almost enough to overtake the 10th place runner, unfortunately Julie was just three steps behind. New coach Shane Bush was impressed with both women's performances. "I am so proud of both my female runners, they pushed themselves to do the best they could today. Again I am so proud of them." Said Coach Bush.

Before the men's race, you could see the excitement on the team's faces to finally start the cross country season. Veteran runner Ethan Mates set a to run a sub 22 minute race. With every step he came closer and closer to achieving his goal, with sweat dripping from his brow and a look of determination on his face, he finished with a time of 21:24 which was good for 17th place. Last minute addition to the cross country team this season, Arlo Helms was able to push himself to a top 25 finish, with less then two hour notice that he was eligible to run. New comer Josh Hunter showed veteran like posse throughout the race, by using the runners in front of him, and pushing forward when the time was right. This strategy helped him finish 27th, in his first race at this level. Coach Bush could be heard talking his runners that he was "Grateful and proud to have a team like this." When each member finished the race they ran back to cheer on their other teammates.
