Lady Lions cap off season

To cap off a strong season for Fayette's Women's Basketball, they participated in the USCAA Basketball Championship. The tournament consisted of 32 USCAA teams from across the country. The Lady Lion's first game of the tournament was against Central Maine. Fayette fell behind early, and they struggled to close the gap against Central Maine. Going into the half, the Lady Lions were down by 13. Fayette tried to make a comeback in the second half, but their efforts fell short. The final score was 79-69.

Fayette had four double-digit scores. Courtney Haines led Fayette in scoring with 17 points. She also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.  Right behind her, Taylor Smith had 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Haley Moreland had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Kori Whitehead had a 11 points and 4 rebounds. And Lyndsey Huhn had an impressive 11 rebounds. For Central Maine, Brooke Reynolds led all scorers with 17 points. She also had 14 rebounds and 4 assists.

Although they fell short against Central Maine, the Lady Lions played a Consolation Game against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The Lady Lions finished the first quarter strong, but they fell behind in the second and third. But they were not going to down without a fight. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions rallied back. And in the final seconds, Courtney Haines tied the game. The Lady Lions were heading to overtime. The Lions had the lead for the majority of overtime; but with less than 17 seconds, Albany College took it. But once again, Courtney Haines tied the game. And with three seconds left, she went on to score the game winning shot. The final score was 86-85.

Taylor Smith led Fayette in scoring with 27 points. She also had 9 rebounds. Right behind her, Courtney Haines had 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Lyndsey Huhn had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. And Haley Moreland had 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. For Albany College, Dannie Griffin led all scorers with 38 points. She also had 7 points and 3 assists.

The USCAA Basketball Championship concludes the Women's Basketball season. The Lady Lions end the season 13-14 overall and 8-6 in the PSUAC play.
