Baseball swept by Greater Allegheny

The Penn State Fayette baseball team was swept by Penn State Greater Allegheny Saturday, and the result has created some distance between the teams in the West division of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).

With the two outcomes, Greater Allegheny (9-4 overall, 9-4 PSUAC) is up five games in the win column in the division over Fayette (4-8, 4-7) and has strengthened its hold on third place.

In the opener, Nathan Grice shut out Fayette and limited the hosts to three hits.  He struck out seven and walked three.

Greater Allegheny scored twice in the first inning and never looked back as it added insurance runs in both the third and seventh innings.

Cory Fleming (Monessen, PA/Monessen HS) went the distance for Fayette, giving up four earned runs.  He gave up seven hits and struck out five.

In the nightcap, Greater Allegheny won the five-inning game, 14-1.  After scoring five runs in the second on two hits and with the help of two Fayette errors, the guests scored seven runs in the third on two hits and with the aid of five walks.

Fayette scored its lone run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by TJ Lux (West Newton, PA/Yough HS).

Chris Rendulic (Port Vue, PA/South Allegheny HS) and Noah Hansen (New Kensington, PA/Kiski Area HS) had doubles for Fayette with Rendulic taking the loss on the mound.  He gave up five runs, four unearned, in two innings.

Fayette returns to action when it heads to Penn State New Kensington (0-12, 0-10) Friday.
