Let’s meet Ron Skiles… 

Coach Ron Skiles brings a wealth of experience and passion for golf to Penn State Fayette, aspiring to lead the program as its head golf coach. A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Ron's journey in golf began early and has flourished over the decades, with a trip to the NCAA Division II Championship during his collegiate years. 

 

With teaching experience spanning from 1972 to 1989 at Bentworth School District, Ron began golf instruction in 2003, founding the Ron Skiles Golf Academy. Ron served as the Head Golf Instructor at Foxwood Acres Golf Course from 1996 to 1999. He also serves as the Director of Golf Instruction at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, PA, where he conducts individual, group, and youth lessons, as well as clinics for high school coaches and corporate outings. 

 

Coach Ron Skiles has an extensive professional golf background, highlighted by his participation in the Champions PGA Tour from 1992 to 2005. He competed in the US Senior Open at NCR Country Club in Dayton, OH, and Bethesda, MD. Throughout his career, Ron qualified for 15 tournaments as a Monday qualifier, achieving a personal best score of 64 at the VFW Championship in Kansas City, MO. He advanced to the final stage of the Champions PGA Tour Qualifying School on eight occasions and was a finalist in the Dave Pelz World Putting Championship in 1997 in Orlando, FL. Additionally, Ron earned his tour card on the Senior Series Golf Tour from 1994 to 1996, where he played in 40 tournaments, showcasing his skill and dedication to the sport. 

 

Coach Ron Skiles has an impressive amateur golf background, having competed in several prestigious championships throughout his career. He was a contestant in the 1992 US Mid-Amateur Championship in Detroit, MI, and participated in multiple US Amateur Championships in 1988 (Cherry Hills, CO), 1990 (Hot Springs, VA), and again in 1988 (Western Amateur, Benton Harbor, MI). Additionally, he was a US Open regional qualifier in 1980 and claimed victory at the Ohio Valley Amateur Championship that same year. A six-time club champion at Nemacolin Country Club from 1972 to 1993, Ron also competed in the Publinx in 1972, 1974, and 1975, and won the Bernhardt Amateur Championship in Wheeling, WV in 1972, 1986, and 1991. He was a member of the California University of Pennsylvania golf team, competing in the NCAA College Division II Championship in 1972. 

 

Throughout his illustrious golfing career, Coach Ron Skiles has achieved numerous accolades, including impressive course records at various renowned golf clubs. Notable achievements include a score of 63 at the Golf Club at North Fork in Anoka, MN (1998), 65 at New Bern Country Club in NC (1996), and 65 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, PA (1993). He also recorded scores of 64 and 63 at Cedarbrook Golf Course (1988) and Nemacolin Country Club (1983), respectively, and a score of 63 at Chippewa Golf Course in Bentleyville, PA (1972). An accomplished player, Ron has celebrated 15 hole-in-ones throughout his career, showcasing his exceptional skill and dedication to the sport.
