OT dooms Roaring Lions

December 11, 2010--Uniontown, Pa.

The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions appeared to be going home with their second straight conference victory, but Penn State Schuylkill had other plans as they spoiled the opportunity by pulling out a 102-94 victory in overtime in the Community Center Main Arena. The Roaring Lions (1-9, 1-2) squandered a double digit lead late in the second half, as Schuylkill forced overtime with a 9-2 run to finish regulation.

Sophomore forward David Winns had a strong performance with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds, his second double-double of the season, to lead the Roaring Lions. Sophomore guard James Pratt also scored a game-high 23 points, but fouled out with more than three minutes remaining in regulation. This coincided with Schuylkill's run, as Fayette struggled to control the clock and continued to turn the ball over in the late stages of the game. Senior guard Tim O'Bryant had a season-high 21 points and four assists while junior guard Josh Tomson scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

However, turnovers plagued Fayette as they committed 32 in 45 minutes of gametime. Although the Roaring Lions won the rebound margin (50-45) and shot better than 55 percent in the first half (16-29), Fayette struggled in the second half and overtime, shooting a combined 15-for-42 (36 percent) while Schuylkill got hot, shooting 53 percent down the stretch and in overtime. Schuylkill collected 22 steals, and turned the ball over 23 times.

Schuylkill was led by Cory Houser, who scored 20 points and had eight rebounds. Sean McCall added 17 points, including four three-pointers, while Colin Nurse added 15. Darryl Kugmeh and Omar Jiminez each had 12, with Joe Patton contributing 10 in the win.

The Roaring Lions host Saint Vincent on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Center Main Arena before taking a three week hiatus through the holiday.
