Roaring Lions top Wilkes-Barre for second consecutive conference win

January 29, 2011--Uniontown, Pa.

The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions held on for a 72-69 win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre, improving to 4-6 in the PSUAC. Wilkes-Barre, ranked 11th in the latest USCAA Poll, fell for just the third time in the conference, and only trails Penn State Beaver in the PSUAC standings.

The Roaring Lions were led by sophomore David Winns, who scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Sophomore Ian McCombs grabbed a game and career-high 16 rebounds to go along with his 10 points. Winns and McCombs accounted for more than half of Fayette's rebounds, collecting 30 of the 57, as the Roaring Lions outrebounded Wilkes-Barre 57-52. Sophomore James Pratt scored 16 points while junior Josh Tomson chipped in 12 points on four three-point field goals.

Despite struggling from the free-throw line, Fayette was able to hang on in the end. Battling injuries and a short bench, the Roaring Lions reserves were outscored 41-5 by Wilkes-Barre's bench. The game included seven ties and seven lead changes, including one late in the first half as Wilkes-Barre scored to go up 32-31 at the intermission. Late free throws allowed the Roaring Lions to hang on, finishing the game shooting 22-for-39 (56 percent) from the charity stripe.

Wilkes-Barre was led by Desmond Simms who scored 15 points while Frank Peters scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
