Roaring Lions fall to Point Park

November 22, 2010—Uniontown, Pa.

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team fell to Point Park University Monday night, 104-68, in a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. The Point Park women won earlier in the night, sending the Pioneers home with a sweep on Fayette's home floor. The loss dropped the Roaring Lions to 0-4 on the season, while Point Park improved to 3-2.

The news, however, was not all bad for the Roaring Lions as junior guard Josh Tomson broke out of his shooting slump in a big way, going 6-for-9 from the field, including 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Tomson had team-high 17 points and added four steals and four rebounds to the Roaring Lions cause. Tomson was followed by fellow junior guard Anthony Howard, who scored a season-high 10 points, with eight coming after halftime. Sophomore guard James Pratt struggled to get going offensively, but contributed six points and dished out a season-best eight assists while freshman guard Tyler VanOlst stayed hot, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc to add nine points. Sophomore forward David Winns battled foul trouble all night long, scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds in limited time.

The Pioneers countered with a balanced attack, with six players reaching double figures and five different players making three-point field goals. Robbie Heatherington led the way with 23 points, going 4-for-9 from three-point range, and 8-for-14 overall. Kris Douse and Jimmy Sherwood each added 15 points, while Josh Trocchio pitched in 12. Josh Pohlot and Devon Alexander each had 10 points.

The Roaring Lions outshot Point Park from behind the arc, but were not able to counter the Pioneers aggressive rebounding. Point Park held a 59-33 advantage in rebounds, and also made more free throws (13) than Fayette attempted (11).

Fayette next travels to Thiel College on Monday, Nov. 29, before a road rematch with Point Park on Dec. 2. The Roaring Lions open up conference play Dec. 4 on the road at Penn State York.
