Roaring Lions can't match first-place Beaver

January 24, 2011--Uniontown, Pa.

Penn State Beaver rolled to a 79-57 victory over Penn State Fayette's men's basketball team in a PSUAC match-up, taking a nine point halftime advantage and gradually extended it throughout the second half to go home with their eighth conference win. The loss drops the Roaring Lions to 2-6 in the PSUAC as they reached the halfway point of the conference schedule.

Fayette was led by sophomore's James Pratt and David Winns, who scored 16 and 12 points respectively, accounting for nearly half of the total points for the Roaring Lions. Sophomore Ian McCombs chipped in eight points despite early foul trouble in a physical game. Each team was whistled for 17 fouls in the first half.

Beaver was led by Tony Houghton with 14 points, with David McGarry and Rich Gaston each adding 13. Beaver outrebounded the Roaring Lions 44-30, dominating the offensive glass with 18 rebounds.

The Roaring Lions struggled to make shots early, shooting only 29 percent in the first half. Despite shooting 48 percent in the second stanza, it was not enough to complete a comeback on a solid Beaver squad.

Fayette returns to action on the weekend as they host Penn State Hazleton on Friday, Jan. 28, at 8:00 p.m. and play a matinee at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, against Penn State Wilkes-Barre in the Community Center Main Arena.
