Fayette takes down Hazleton

Penn State Fayette dominated the paint over Penn State Hazleton, conquering the Lions 80-58 in a PSUAC game. Fayette led wire-to-wire, with its largest lead of 22 coming with only eight minutes remaining. The Roaring Lions improved to 3-6 in the conference, while Hazleton dropped to 2-7.

 

The Roaring Lions outrebounded Hazleton 52-34, including converting19 points off of second chance rebounds. Sophomore David Winns collected eight rebounds and pitched in 15 points, while sophomore James Pratt scored 19 points and dished out six assists to lead Fayette. Freshman Tyler VanOlst had a career night, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds while sophomore Ian McCombs scored 13 points and pulled down nine boards. VanOlst and junior Josh Tomson each made three three-point field goals, as the Roaring Lions shot 35 percent from behind the arc.

 

Fayette held a six-point halftime advantage, which gradually grew as Hazleton had to account for all the scoring threats. The Roaring Lions shot 52 percent (14-for-27) in the second half and finished the game 30-for-61 from the field (49 percent).

 

Hazleton was led by Casey Petty with 17 points, while Eric Radishofski scored 10 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.

 

The Roaring Lions host Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 3:00 p.m. before Penn State Greater Allegheny visits on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m. for a PSUAC West Division showdown.
