York drops Fayette in conference opener

December 4, 2010—York, Pa.

Despite three players in double figures, the Roaring Lions could not overcome a slow start, falling at Penn State York 73-62. Although Fayette (0-7 overall) pulled within five points late in the second half, the Roaring Lions could not overcome a 14 halftime deficit. The loss drops Fayette to 0-1 in conference play, while York improved to 2-0 in the PSUAC.

Sophomore forward David Winns had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Roaring Lions in both categories. However, foul trouble limited Winns' minutes early, allowing York to take advantage inside, outscoring Fayette 33-22 in the paint. Sophomore guard James Pratt added 15 points and six rebounds while senior backcourt teammate Tim O'Bryant chipped in 12 points and a season-high six rebounds.

Although each team collected 32 rebounds, York's defense limited the Roaring Lions to 38 percent shooting, including only 3-for-14 beyond the arc. While each team limited turnovers, York was the only team able to capitalize on the few opportunities. The Lions scored 20 points off of 12 Fayette turnovers, but the Roaring Lions were not able to take advantage equally—notching only three points off of 13 York turnovers.

York was led by Jermell Flemming who led all scorers with 19 points. David Salerno chipped in 11 points while Zach Harlem added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Lions.
