Fayette finishes season with loss in consolation round

The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions could not overcome an early deficit, falling 84-67 to Berkeley College (NY) in the consolation bracket of the 2011 USCAA National Basketball Championships at Penn State Fayette. The loss ends the Roaring Lions' season, as Berkeley advances to a consolation semifinal against an opponent to be determined.

 

Fayette was led by junior Josh Tomson with 18 points on six three-pointers, while also dishing out a game-high 5 assists. Sophomore David Winns added 15 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Ian McCombs scored 14. Sophomore James Pratt added 10 points to round out the Roaring Lions players in double-figures.

 

The Roaring Lions shot 44 percent (28-for-63) from the field, but were unable to overcome Berkeley's size advantage. Berkeley collected 24 offensive rebounds, and totaled 27 second chance points. Berkeley also converted 24 Fayette turnovers into 31 points, while the Roaring Lions only scored 13 points off of 19 Knights turnovers.

 

Berkeley was led by Elijah Craig with a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds. Jose Stable grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds, including 13 offensive boards, while also chipping in 16 points.

 

Fayette ends it's season with a mark of 5-22, including a 5-11 record in the PSUAC. The Roaring Lions return nine of their ten players for the 2011-12 campaign, including four starters.
