Second Half Struggles Doom Roaring Lions against Bearcats

November 21, 2011

LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Fayette's men's basketball team fell to St. Vincent Monday night, 92-51 in non-conference action. Fayette trailed by two late in the first half, but a 10-1 run by the Bearcats to end the first half was followed by a second-half surge to knock off the Roaring Lions. Fayette (0-5) remained close throughout the first half, but a plethora of turnovers allowed St. Vincent to pull away.

The Roaring Lions were led by junior David Winns (Washington, DC) with 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 12 points and six boards.

St. Vincent (2-0) turned 33 Fayette turnovers into 41 points and also outscored the Roaring Lions 38-28 in the paint. Fayette shot only 37 percent on the night, including only 1-for-12 from three-point range. The Bearcats put up 75 shots on the night, connecting on 35 for a 47 percent effort from the field. St. Vincent also made seven three point field goals.

The Bearcats were led by Dennis Bassich with 26 points, while Isaac Turner collected 19 points and Tauvon Pettiford added 17.

With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, Fayette cut the St. Vincent lead to two at 30-28. But St. Vincent took a 40-29 lead at the half and never looked back, outscoring the Roaring Lions 52-22 in a sloppy second half.

Fayette returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as they travel to Franciscan for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off. The Roaring Lions women's basketball team will play in the nightcap, approximately at 8:00 p.m.
