Fayette Falls to Rochester College, 69-53

January 8, 2012

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Fayette stayed with USCAA Division 1 foe Rochester College on Sunday, but the Warriors proved too strong as the Roaring Lions fell, 69-53, in a non-conference match-up in the Community Center Main Arena.

The Roaring Lions (5-7, 4-0 PSUAC) stellar shooting from the free-throw line, a program best 95 percent (18-for-19), did not carry over to the field, as Fayette shot only 30 percent, going 15-for-50, including 5-for-19 from three-point range.

Juniors James Pratt (Uniontown, Pa.) and David Winns (Washington, DC) each scored 11 points to lead the Roaring Lions, while Winns grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Junior Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) narrowly missed another double-double, recording 10 rebounds and nine points.

Rochester jumped out to an early lead at 13-4, but the Roaring Lions cut the deficit to three at 17-14 midway through the first half. Fayette would never lead and never got closer than three the rest of the game. Trailing by eight at halftime, Fayette was unable to control the ball early in the second and Rochester quickly pulled away and led by as many as 21 midway through the second half.

The Warriors narrowly outrebounded Fayette, 38-37, but dominated the paint, scoring 32 points to the Roaring Lions' 16. Rochester also turned 22 Fayette turnovers into 23 points.

Rochester was led by Dramel Hogan with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Brad Norman added 11 points and seven steals.

The Roaring Lions return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 as they host PSUAC opponent Penn State Mont Alto at 3:00 p.m. That game will be the second game in a stretch of four straight at home for Fayette.
