MEDIA, Pa. - No. 17 Penn State Fayette (11-12, 10-5 PSUAC) used a strong performance from their bench as they cruised to a 95-71 win over Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference foe Penn State Brandywine on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Roaring Lions, who have clinched a PSUAC Playoff berth, received 40 points from their bench, including 20 points from sophomore Tyler VanOlst (California, Pa.). VanOlst made six three-point field goals on the night.

 

Junior David Winns (Washington, DC) scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, to lead all players. Junior Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) joined Winns with his eighth double-double of the season, adding 13 points and 12 boards for Fayette. Freshman Brandon Cunningham (Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.) rounded out Fayette's double-figure scorers with 10 points off the bench.

 

Fayette jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but Brandywine battled back to tie the score 12-12 with 11:21 to play in the first half. But the Roaring LIons steadily built a lead the remainder of the half, and a jump shot by junior James Pratt (Uniontown, Pa.) gave Fayette a 44-34 halftime advantage. Pratt would finish with nine points and a game-high five assists.

 

The 10-point halftime lead turned into a 21-point advantage on a VanOlst three-pointer with 15:57 remaining in the game, and Brandywine would never come closer than 17 in the second half. The Roaring Lions led by as many as 28 with 4:15 to play.

 

The Roaring Lions shot a healthy 44 percent from the field, and knocked down nine three-pointers. Fayette used their size advantage to win the rebounding battle, 49-36, and claimed 28 second chance points.

 

Brandywine shot 38 percent on the night, but struggled from behind the arc, making only three shots in 19 attempts from three-point range. Rasheed Wilkins led the Lions with 16 points and claimed a game-high five steals.

 

Fayette returns to action trying to improve their playoff seeding on Tuesday, Feb. 14 as they host PSUAC Western Division rival Penn State DuBois. DuBois won the first meeting between the teams this season, 85-72, back on Feb. 2 at DuBois.
