No. 16 Fayette Falls in PSUAC Quarters, 94-61, to No. 7 Penn State DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. - No. 6-seed Penn State Fayette struggled late in the first half, and no. 3-seed Penn State DuBois capitalized with an 11-0 run to close out the stanza en route to a 94-61 win in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference quarterfinal playoff action on Monday night in the Multipurpose Building at Penn State DuBois.

Fayette (12-14, 11-7 PSUAC; ranked no. 17 in the USCAA) received 23 points and seven rebounds from junior David Winns (Washington, DC), but he received little help from his teammates, as no other Roaring Lion finished in double figures in points. Junior Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 12 rebounds for Fayette to go along with eight points.

Fayette jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over DuBois (19-7, 14-4 PSUAC; ranked no. 7 in the USCAA), but the Nittany Lions quickly erased the deficit to tie the score, 6-6, with just under 14 minutes to play in the first half. The first half saw four ties, but Fayette struggled to get off quality shots, and DuBois pounded the ball inside to draw fouls and get to the free throw line 14 times in the first half, making 11. Meanwhile, Fayette shot just 31 percent from the floor, and got to the line only three times. Leading 29-23 with just under five minutes left in the half, DuBois went on an 11-0 run and took a commanding 40-23 lead into the break.

DuBois quickly extended their lead to 20 in the second half, and Fayette would never get closer than 15 the remainder of the game.

Fayette turned the ball over 16 times on the night, leading to 26 DuBois points. The Nittany Lions also dominated the paint, scoring 48 points in the lane, as Chris Dickison scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for DuBois. Woody Mitchell led DuBois with 21 points, while Jovan Brown recorded his 1,000th point as a DuBois Nittany Lion, totaling 18 on the night.

Fayette shot 34 percent on the night, and made only four three-point field goals in 23 attempts, good for only 17 percent.

Rayette takes a break until the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships on Wednesday, March 7. The host Roaring Lions will tip at 7:30 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined. DuBois advances to the semifinals of the PSUAC playoffs on Friday, Feb. 24 where they will meet either Penn State York or Penn State Brandywine.
