March 7, 2012

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Junior David Winns (Washington, DC) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead no. 10 Penn State Fayette, and broke the school's scoring record, but it was not enough as the Roaring Lions fell 92-72 to no. 7 College of St. Joseph's on Wednesday night in the Community Center Main Arena.

Winns, a 2011-12 USCAA First Team All-American, set the program's modern day scoring record with his 12th point, a lay-up with 10:35 remaining in the game.

Junior Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 20 points and 12 rebounds, his ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore Tyler VanOlst (California, Pa.) added four three-point field goals to finish with 15 points.

Fayette knotted the score at 12-12 with 15:37 remaining in the first half, but St. Joe's used a 12-3 run for a 24-15 advantage. Fayette would never get closer than six the rest of the way, and went scoreless for nearly four minutes midway through the first half.

The Roaring Lions hung with the Fighting Knights in the second half, but never threatened with a run to cut into the lead.

Fayette shot 35 percent on the night, including 8-for-34 from three-point range. Hart and Winns combined for 16-for-29 shooting on the night, but their teammates struggled from the floor, finishing 11-for-48 from the field. St. Joe's also outrebounded the Roaring Lions, 60-46, and received 22 points from their bench.

The Roaring Lions finish their season against the University of Maine at Machias on Thursday, March 8 at 3:15 p.m. in the Maltho Gymnasium on Penn State Fayette's campus.
