Heartbreak Hotel: Beaver Edges Roaring Lions 92-90 in OT Thriller

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Rob Aqurs hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left in overtime to help Penn State Beaver avoid the upset in defeating the Roaring Lions in a 92-90 thriller at Fayette.

 

A pair of free throws from All-American David Winns (Washington, D.C.) put Fayette up 84-81with 25 seconds remaining in regulation. Lamont Wright's NBA three-pointer at the buzzer sent the game into overtime.

 

Dierre Jenkins (Uniontown, Pa.) hit a free throw with 1:11 to go in the first overtime period to tie the score, setting up Aqurs' free throws.

 

Both Winns and Brandon Cunningham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif) scored 24 for the Roaring Lions who shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field for the game, including a 69 percent showing in the first half. Winns notched the double-double by grabbing 13 rebounds.

 

Senior James Pratt (Uniontown, Pa.) added 20 and Ryan Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 11 for Fayette (4-7, 3-2).

 

Aqurs led Beaver with a game-high 30 points, whild Nick Miller added 24, Lamont Wright 19 and Pat Horton 10 for the Lions.

 

Fayette closes out the 2012 portion of the schedule by hosting Penn State Lehigh Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22.
