Roaring Lions fall to Bearcats

Latrobe, Pa – The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions dropped their second straight Monday night to the St. Vincent Bearcats 93-73 in yet another road game.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 13-0 nothing lead until just under the 15 minute mark when a steal and subsequent layup by junior Derek Jones (Brownsville, Pa) broke the scoring silence for the Lions.  Jones is atop the USCAA in steals this season, as he secured five more in Latrobe Monday evening.

Baskets were traded nearly evenly for the next 10 minutes, at which point the Bearcats took advantage of an off-shooting night for the Lions.  As freshman Dominick Jackson (Minneapolis, Minn.) pulled down a defensive rebound and led the fast break, he found junior Darius Mack (Washington, D.C.) at the three point line.  Mack missed the attempt, but was fouled.  Sinking two of the three, Mack's free throw attempts pulled the Lions within 12 with a little under 2 minutes to play in the half.  Mack then pulled down a defensive rebound and found junior forward Dierre Jenkins (Uniontown, Pa.) on a fast break for a pull-up three pointer.  The surge at the end of the half pulled Fayette within 10 heading into the locker room, giving them a little momentum that with which they began.

The Achilles Heel of the Lions again proved to be the opening minutes of the second half, as St. Vincent tore off a myriad of three pointers to widen the gap in the scoring column.  The Bearcats took a commanding lead late into the game, as open shots and second chance points helped St. Vincent out-score the Lions again by 10 points.

The Lions were led offensively by Luke Williams (Maui, Hawaii), who tallied 21 points.  Williams added 7 rebounds and 3 steals to compliment his point total.  Junior Jacob Bronder (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed in the scoring column with 16 points.

Penn State Fayette is back in action Tuesday, Nov. 19, as they travel to CCAC South to take on Point Park University and their Pioneers.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 and can be followed live on WMBS 590 Radio or at www.msasports.net.
