Roaring Lions outrun PSU DuBois in PSUAC opener

Roaring Lions Out-Run PSU DuBois in PSUAC Opener

Lemont Furnace, PA – In the first PSUAC game of the season, the Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions used a double-double from Junior Jacob Bronder (Pittsburgh, PA) to notch its first conference win 81-53.  Bronder finished the game with a season high and game high 22 points and 20 rebounds.  Matched up against DuBois Freshman Sam Roselli, who was heavily recruited by PSU Fayette.

For the first 13 minutes of the game, both teams traded baskets, knotting the score at 17.  An offensive rebound by Sophomore CJ Gaddis (Brownsville, PA) and a Derek Jones (Brownsville, PA) three pointer led a 20 – 4 Fayette run capped off by a Darius Mack (Washington, DC) long ball.

Bronder finished the half with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Four quick baskets by Sophomore Luke Williams (Maui, HI) and Bronder gave the Lions a 49-25 lead in the first few minutes of the second stanza, giving Fayette a lead it wouldn't relinquish.  Williams followed Bronder in the scoring column with 16 points and pulled down 7 boards.  Gaddis and Junior Forward Dierre Jenkins (Uniontown, PA) combined for 9 of Fayette's 17 steals.  Leading the Lions in assists was Freshman Point Guard Dominick Jackson (Minneapolis, MN), as he shelled out 6 assists and gathered 3 steals.  Freshman Forward Sean Smoggie (Carmichaels, PA) rounded out the scoring with a pair of foul shots with no time on the clock.

Prior to the game, the Penn State Fayette Athletic Department honored the 2012-13 Roaring Lion team that went to last season's USCAA National Championship game.  More than 15 former Roaring Lion student-athletes were in attendance for the ceremony.
